Ever watched a farmer roll manure into balls by hand? That‘s the ancient wisdom of granulation. Step into the granulation workshop, and your eyes will be drawn to the tilted pan: it rotates slowly, its angle finely tuned, as powder rolls, collides, and agglomerates under the combined forces of centrifugal motion, friction, and gravity. The operator sprays water while observing—tiny seeds grow gradually, finally rolling into perfect pellets 2–5 mm in diameter. It’s like making snowballs, or grandma shaping tangyuan (glutinous rice balls)—full of hands on warmth.

But one dancer can‘t carry the whole show. Behind the disc stands a well-rehearsed team: a half-wet material crusher first breaks sticky fermented chicken manure or distiller’s grains into fine powder; a horizontal mixer blends in microbes and additives so every pellet carries balanced nutrition; a disc feeder delivers powder steadily to the pan, preventing gaps or pile ups. As pellets spill over the rim, they enter a rotary dryer—hot air removes excess moisture to prevent caking during storage—followed by a rotary cooler to harden them. A trommel screen acts as a picky inspector, rejecting undersize and oversize particles; fines go back to the pan, oversize returns to the crusher. Finally, an auto bagging scale dresses them for market.

What makes the disc granulator so charming is its controllability. Pan angle, rotation speed, water spray rate, retention time—all can be adjusted on the fly. An experienced operator, by eye and instinct, can produce different particle sizes. For organic fertilizer, this gentle approach is crucial: it avoids the violence of extrusion granulation, preserving microbial activity; and it consumes less energy than drum granulation (which relies on steam). The pan is lined with high-strength fiberglass or wear resistant rubber, resisting corrosion and preventing sticky buildup—easy to clean.

A fertilizer plant owner in Yunnan once said: “We used extrusion before—pellets came out like pebbles and wouldn‘t dissolve in the field. After switching to a disc granulator, the pellets are crumbly and break down quickly in soil—farmers can’t get enough.” Indeed, disc granulated pellets are spherical, smooth surfaced, but internally porous—ideal for microbial survival and rapid nutrient release.
